13th September 2011, fifty golfers braced themselves for windy conditions at Castleknock Golf and Country Club. Notwithstanding the adverse weather conditions, there were a number of great scores (4 person scramble format) with the winning team of Paul Grimes, Robert Grimes, Paul Morrisson and Gerry O'Brien bagging an eagle and a host of (10) birdies. Conor Mallaghan's team came in second place with fantastic performances by his team mates namely Willie Coonan, Tommy McDonnell and Ferghal Harte. In third place we had a team with a strong Castleknock College flavour captained by Paul Harmey and comprising Fr Harry Slowey, Marc Boucher and Warren Ryan.
It was great to see Marc Boucher in action after his recent run of strong performances when he won the Irish Under 15’s championship, the Scottish Under 15 Championship, the Interprovincials representing Leinster and the Fred Daly Cup representing Carton House. We wish Marc every success in his golf career.
We were delighted to have so many guests join us including past pupils from Glenstal Abbey, Terenure, Kings Hospital, St Pat’s Dungannon, St Michaels, CBS Athy, Belvedere and CBS Carlow. The course at Castleknock Golf Club was in excellent condition and was a pleasure to play notwithstanding the wind.
A very enjoyable day altogether.
Finally, a big thank you to Conor Mallaghan and Carton House for sponsoring the prizes.
