Business Lunch 2018

Mar 20, 2018

March 9th, 362 past man and their guests gathered in Dublin for the Annual Business Lunch hosted by Union President, Oisín Quinn.

Pastmen were welcomed by Penn Counterparts - A Capella Group, who's lead singer was Hugh Reynolds, son of Sean, class '80.

Between courses, the guest speaker, Jim Gavin, Dublin Football Manager, entertained all with a fascinating talk on aviation and performance management of elite athletes.

After desert a presentation was made to Oliver Murphy in recognition of his years of service as Headmaster. This was followed by an excellent speech by Cian Clancy, a 6th year, who is the first student through the College benefitting from a scholarship to allow him attend.

Ticket prices once again were kept low and this we can only do because of our corporate sponsors, so our thanks are due to lead lunch sponsor, Green Reit plc, Pat Gunne class '90, our secondary sponsor Quilter Cheviot, John McElroy class '57 and our other sponsors; Jones Engineering Group, Mark Curley class '06, TravelWin Group, Killian Whelan class '86, MoneyCorp, Bryan McSharry class '86, Sandymount Hotel, John Loughran class '73, Ben McArdle Ltd, John McArdle class '82, Sherry FitzGerald Lettings, Dunboyne Castle Hotel, Peter Cooke class '04, Fanagans, Fintan Cooney class '84, Convertibill, Patrick Reynolds class '84, eTravel, David O'Grady class '83, Ely Wine Bars, Erik Robson class '88, Mason, Hayes & Curran, David O'Donnell class '84, Matt the Thresher, James Lyons class '87, Morgan O'Driscoll Auctioneers, Morgan O'Driscoll class '83, Newgate Motor Group, David O'Connor class '04, RBK, Declan McGinley class '71 and Typetec, Simon Close class '04.

The charity raffle on the day raised €7,500, a record amount, and this will be greatly appreciated by our three nominated recipients; The Castleknock College Union Scholarship Fund, The Castleknock College Union Benevolent Fund and the Peter McVerry Trust.

Finally numbers are an essential ingredient for any such lunch and so we remain indebted to the pastmen who answered that call in such great numbers, and who then dug deep to make the charity raffle such a great success. Thank you all.
