The 3rd annual Castleknock College Union past pupils Doubles Tennis Tournament was once again held on Friday 29th of June in Fitzwilliam Lawn Tennis Club in glorious sunshine and was enjoyed by all participants. Once again to cater for all standards, the tournament was organised in two separately graded groups, and was followed with dinner and presentations in a private room in the clubhouse. There were around 30 players from across the country (and the years!) with a number of new faces that was great to see. It was agreed that the latest format worked very well with plenty of time for the teams to soak up the sun and meet old and new pastmen. Once again the top two teams in both sections playing a best of 7 games to decide the final! After two excellent finals the worthy winners in Group 1 were Gerry Cleary (beaten last year in the final) and to everyone’s delight John F. Burke, who won the inaugural Group 2 final in 2010 who had a great match in the final with James Fitzsimons and Peter McHugh. History repeated itself in the Group 2 final where Robert Dowley (who won last year with Declan Hynes) once again triumphed playing with Conrad Murphy pipping Paul Morrison and Dermot Power in the final. Thanks to everyone who turned up to play and to those who came for the dinner and also thanks to Fitzwilliam LTC for allowing use of the courts on a busy Friday afternoon and for the lovely meal afterwards.
