Niall Whelan, Class '87

The Union is saddened to hear of the untimely passing of Niall Whelan, class '87.
He was also just as happy and entertaining playing Jacob in "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat”.
Niall was universally liked and will be sorely missed.
Mairead has lost a loving husband and Cian a dedicated father. To them, the wider Whelan family and friends, we extend our heartfelt condolences.
Requiescat in Pace.
Tell me
What did you not do, Niall?
Always it seems on the go
Biking here, football there
Halfway up Mount Everest
While I barely manage the stairs
What did you not do, Niall?
Studying hard, with distinctions won
Pursuing work wherever it led
And still finding time to build
Your mother's garden shed
What did you not do, Niall?
Finding the girl of your dreams in Mairéad
And making a beautiful home -
for you all plain sailing
But, as for supporting Liverpool
Well, we'll forgive you that one failing
What did you not do, Niall?
Giving your all for your pride and joy
It's plain for all of us to see
Your beautiful, beautiful boy
Is truly your legacy
What did you not do, Niall?
Seldom pausing to take a break
Such a bundle of energy
Packing into your too brief time
A full life, maybe two, even three
What did you not do, Niall?
Though all too soon your race was run
Even as you took your final call
You gifted life to others
Generous as ever to a fault
Now what do we do without you, Niall?
We walk on, we walk on
With hope in our hearts, lán de bhrón
Consoled only in knowing that
You will NEVER, walk alone
You will NEVER walk alone
