The death has occurred of John O'BYRNE

February 11th, 2017, surrounded by his family, John O’Byrne passed away peacefully. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Erika, in 2012, and survived by his two sons, Aidan and Kevin, and three grandchildren.

Date of Death: Saturday 11th February 2017

John was the middle one of three brothers at Knock during the 'war years' after his brother the late Paddy, class '48 and ahead of Michael, class '51.

He wasn't a frequent visitor but John more than made up for it when he did visit - witness this article from 1988 chronicling his first visit back in 40 years.

His son Aidan mentioned therein dropped us this note -

As regards my father, John O’Byrne (1931-2017), I’d just note in brief that he passed away on 11 February after a long and fruitful life devoted to the theatre, the joys of travelling, his signature push bike, photography and his family both around the world and back in Dublin, where he would frequently visit. Predeceased by his wife Erika in 2012, and now with the passing of his younger brother Michael reunited with each of his siblings Mary, Anne and Paddy, he is survived by his two sons Aidan and Kevin, and three grandchildren, all resident in London.

Long before social media arrived on the scene and entirely passed him by, by the way, he had written the above piece on his memories of SVC, and in our mind it now serves as his farewell to the College he loved so well.

We in turn assure his family, that Castleknock remembers John O'Byrne.

Requiescat in Pace.
